Agrigento:
Agrigento is a town on the south-west coast of the island. Founded under the name of Akragas by the Greek, it developed into an important centre of the island. The poet Pindar glorified Akragas as “the most beautiful of mortal towns”. Yet today the temple buildings, which can be visited in the Valley of the Temples (“Valle di Templi”), give witness of the town’s time of prosperity.  more...

Alessandria della Rocca:
In 1570 Lord Don Carlo Blasco Barresi founded the little town Alessandria della Rocca on the Monti Sicani, situated about 50 km northern of Agrigento. However, the history of colonisation goes much further. So still today, the Sican necropolises of Gruttiddri and Lurdicheddra can be visited, which prove a settlement already in the New Stone Age. The main income source of the town is agriculture. In Alessandria della Rocca the 17th century parish church, which is dedicated to Maria del Pilar, is worthwhile to see.  more...

The area in and around Aragona offers numerous sights for the visitors. The Palazzo Naselli with its fresco-decorated vaults belongs to the most impressive buildings of the town. A visit of the nearby Torre del Salto d'Angio', from where you have a beautiful view over the area, is worth seeing, too.  more...

Bivona:
The village Bivona is located in the midst of the green forests of Monte Sicani. In Sicily it is called the town of the peaches, since they belong to the most flavoursome of whole Italy. Besides others, the Arabian-Norman portal and several churches are worth seeing.  more...

Burgio:
In Burgio there are lots of numerous historic sights, such as the Arabian castle, the museum of mummies and the 16th century church of San Vito. The town is also famous for its skilful pottery, which manufacturing looks back on a long tradition.  more...

Calamonaci:
The town Calamonaci is situated in a smooth hilly landscape only a couple of kilometres far from the sea. Interesting sights are, for instance, the parish church with assorted altars and sculptures as well as some places of the town, which are decorated with skilful mosaics of the local artist Vito Russo.  more...

Caltabellotta:
Caltabellotta lies on the north-west side of Sciacca in an awesome location on the slope of a bizarre shaped hill. The history of the town goes back to the Sicels, who had already a residential area here. Later on the Arabians established a colony and built a castle. They then called the town Castle of Oaks, „Qalat-al-Ballut“, which was the origin of the town’s today’s name. Camastra:
In Camastra there are a large number of signs of colonies, which indicate a time period from the Greek to the Stone Age. The most findings lie on the mountain Castellazzo di Camastra with a mighty tower on its peak. Also a must-see is the Christian necropolis named Grotto of Miracles.  more...

Cammarata:
Cammarata lies on the East slope of the mountain Monte Cammarata. The ruins of a castle and the church Santa Maria are worth seeing, indeed. Also a trip to the closely located mountain is highly recommended. A road will lead you up to an observation platform, from where you have a wonderful view over the countryside.  more...

Campobello di Licata:
Campobello di Licata was founded in 1681 by Baron Raimondo Ramondetta. Especially the Church of Jesus and Maria is much of interest, as well as the parish church with nave and two side aisles containing some absorbing statues, which are dedicated to San Giovanni and Madonna dell'Aiuto.  more...

Canicattì:
In the town Canicattì lots of religious and cultural sights are offered. The parish church with a couple of marvellous pieces of art, the impressive Church of the Holy Ghost, the Bonanno Castle and the Teatro Sociale belong to the most important.  more...

Casteltermini:
The town Casteltermini was founded in 1629 and built on the grounds of the Arabian town Chiuddia. In particular the churches of the town are worth seeing, among them the gorgeous baroque church of San Giuseppe and the church of Santa Croce, which even originates from the time before the foundation of the town.  more...

Castrofilippo:
The small town Castrofilippo, that is located in a hilly landscape, offers sights which are of high interest, like the churches Chiesa del Rosario and Chiesa di Sant'Antonio Abate. A relaxing walk through the narrow alleys of the Old Town is also recommended.  more...

Cattolica Eraclea:
In the town Cattolica Eraclea and its neighbourhood there are a lot of impressive sights. In the town you can discover several churches and “palazzi”, such as the Palazzo del Principe Bonanno. Not far from the town there are excavations of the antique Eraclea Minoa as well as the see Gorgo, a favourite place for migratory birds.  more...

Cianciana:
The town Cianciana is located in the area of the antique town Ferla, which was mentioned first time in 1269 and supposedly destroyed by an earthquake. In the today’s town the visitor can enjoy several impressive Palazzi, such as the Palazzo Micheli, which was built in neoclassical style.  more...

Comitini:
The Palazzo Bellacera is one of the main attractions of Comitini. It was built in 1631 and gives shelter to an aquarium, a library and a mine museum. Some mines can still be visited. Especially in the 19th century they brought richness to the town through the digging of sulphur. Also worth seeing are the Villa Vella and the three churches of the town.  more...

Favara:
The town Favara, which is situated only a couple of kilometres away from the Valley of the Temples and the sea, offers a great number of cultural and historical sights. The town’s landmark is the 13th century Castle Chiaramonte with an interesting chapel. Furthermore there are several artful palaces and churches in the town.  more...

Grotte:
The name of the town Grotte, which origin is estimated back to the Greek period, is a result of the numerous grottos in the neighbourhood. The town hall, the Church del Carmine from the 16th century and last but not least the parish church belong to the most important sights.  more...

Joppolo Giancaxio:
The little Joppolo Giancaxio was founded in the end of the 16th century. It has an interesting castle with a beautiful tower. The parish church is the most important religious building of the town, where you can admire an artful painting.  more...

Lampedusa e Linosa:
The borough Lampedusa e Linosa includes the two islands of the same name and the uninhabited island Lampione. All of them offer fine-grained sandy beaches as well as an untouched underwater world, which is well known as snorkel and diving paradise. The islands also provide place for the egg deposition of the hawksbill turtle. The bay of the Isola dei Conigli belongs to the most beautiful beaches with its white sand beach and turquoise blue water.  more...

Licata:
The coast village Licata is located at the mouth of the river Salso and was already colonialised in the 3rd century before Christ. The on a hill built castle Sant’Angelo, the archaeological museum with findings, that go back to the Greek, several churches and especially the wonderful beaches belong to the town’s attractions.  more...

Lucca Sicula:
The little town Lucca Sicula was founded in 1622 by Francesco Lucchesi, it is situated not far from the river Verdura. The main sights are the parish church with a neoclassical altar and the 18th century church del Santissimo Rosario.  more...

Menfi:
In the town Menfi it is especially recommended to visit the Torre Federiciana, which is the single relic of the Staufer Castle, built in the 13th century, as well as the Palazzo Pignatelli. You should also go on an excursion to the nice fishing village Porto Palo, where you can relax on the long sand beach in a quiet atmosphere.  more...

Montallegro:
The town Montallegro on the slopes of Monte Suso offers multiple attractions. The church Santa Maria della Catena and the Monte Suso itself, on which you can find ruins of former colonies, are very interesting. Besides, in Montallegro there is the nature reserve of Torre Salsa with a long fine-grained sand beach and many opportunities for the observation of birds.  more...

Montevago:
The small town Montevago is famous in particular for the thermal centre “Terme Acqua Pia” with its natural thermal water, which among others offers courses of treatment and wellness services. The ruins of the old parish church and the new parish church belong to the most important sights.  more...

Naro:
The town Naro was probably founded during the period of the Greek and offers a big number of religious and historical buildings. The Castle dei Chiaramonte, which was declared as a national monument in 1912, the antique Norman Dome as well as countless churches of the town make up the main attractions.  more...

Palma di Montechiaro:
The name of the town Palma di Montechiaro is derived from the Castle of Montechiaro, which lies only a few kilometres away from the town on a cliff at the ocean and was built in the 14th century. The parish church with the beautiful stairway and the Torre di San Carlo at the bathing beach are worth seeing.  more...

Porto Empedocle:
The beautiful town Porto Empedocle is situated at the ocean and has played an important role as harbour town already in Greek and Roman periods. In the Villa Romana, which originates from the 1st century before Christ, there are yet kept antique mosaics. The parish church is the most important building of the town.  more...

Racalmuto:
The town Racalmuto has to offer a lot in historical and cultural respects. There are numerous religious buildings. Also a visit of the Castle der Chiaramonte, the theatre Regina Margherita and the Palazzo Municipale are worthwhile. In the surrounding area you will find, among others, a prehistoric necropolis as well as several salt and sulphur mines.  more...

The town Raffadali is attractive for both cultural interested people and those who love nature. So there are several mountains in the surrounding area, on which you can discover archaeological sights such as prehistoric grottos and caves. In the town itself especially the parish church, that hosts a sarcophagus from the Roman period, is of interest.  more...

Ravanusa:
In the town Ravanusa especially the archaeological museum S. Lauricella, the Palazzo Sillitti as well as the parish church of San Giacomo from the 17th century are worth a visit. Besides, there are antique archaeological excavations on the Monte Saraceno.  more...

Realmonte:
The town Realmonte is located on a hill at the ocean and offers several beaches, which are among the most beautiful of Sicily. In particular the archaeological excavation of the Roman Villa Duruelli from the 1st century before Christ, where you can still look at old mosaics, is very interesting.  more...

Ribera:
Ribera is situated on a hilly landscape close to the coast and is the native town of the politician Franceso Crispi, whose birthplace is one of the main attractions of the town. You can also find here the 14th century Castle of Poggio Diana. Last but not least, in Ribera there is the nature reserve of the river mouth of Platani with its unique flora.  more...

Sambuca di Sicilia:
The today’s Sambuca di Sicilia was founded by the Arabians in the 9th century and offers lots of historical and religious sights, among them several “palazzi” and churches. Furthermore, there is an archaeological excavation not far from the town, on the Monte Adranone from the Greek period as well as a necropolis.  more...

San Biagio Platani:
The town San Biagio Platani was founded in the 17th century and is especially famous for its celebrations at Easter with its imaginative and artful Arks. You should definitely visit the parish church of San Biagio and the church del Carmine from the 18th century.  more...

San Giovanni Gemini:
The most important sights of the town San Giovanni Gemini are the parish church and the oldest church of the town, the Chiesa della Madonna del Carmelo. The town is also known as the town of cheese, since numerous types of cheese are produced here.  more...

The small town Santa Elisabetta was founded in 1620 by Nicola Giuseppe Montaperto and offers a couple of interesting sights. The most important ones are the parish church, the Piazza San Carlo with beautiful pottery as well as Sican graves.  more...

The town Santa Margherita di Belice was founded in 1572 by the Baron Anonio Corbera. It already shows signs of Sican, Greek, Roman and Arabian colonies, though. Especially the Filangeri palace and the parish church are worth seeing.  more...

Santo Stefano Quisquina:
In Santo Stefano Quisquina there are main attractions like the parish church with several valuable paintings and the Palazzo Baronale. The countless celebrations of the town are also worth mentioning, among them the cheese festival and the celebration of the Holy Calogero.  more...

The picturesque port city Sciacca offers sandy beaches, a fascinatingly cleft coast area and furthermore several hot springs, which has turned the town into a favourite holiday destination. The small town Siculiana was founded in the 14th century and is located on a hill next to the coast. The town Villafranca Sicula was founded in 1499 by Antonio Alliata and administered by his family till 1812. The parish church and the Church del Carmine, both of them from the 16th century, and the Church San Giovanni Battista belong to the most important sights.  more...
