About Sicily - Online Guide for your Vacation in Sicily

Sicily is the largest island in the Mediterranean Sea and it´s history goes back to ancient times. The Greeks and the Romans praised Sicily as a “gift of the gods” and in numerous cities you still find impressing antique buildings and remains of temples. Citynames like Siracusa, Agrigento, Giardini Naxos and Taormina summon the spirit of antique history.

The symbol of Sicily is the head of a woman, surrounded by snakes and little wings, in the center of three “running” legs. The symbol originated from the old name of the island “Trinakria”, which translates into: the three forelands. You will find the symbol everywhere in Sicily.
