The first people living in Sicily are called the Sicani and the Sicules, they immigrated over the southern point of Italy to Sicily. With the immigration of the Greeks and the people from Carthage their time in Sicily ended.

241 BC: Sicily as Roman province:
During the First Punic War the Romans manage to conquer the western parts of Sicily. (The Punic Wars were conflicts between the Roman Empire and Carthage.) The eastern parts remained under Greek control untill 212 BC. Sicily became the first Roman province outside of the Italian peninsula; with its large grain fields Sicily was important for the food supply of the city of Rome

In the time of the emigration of nations tribes migrated in whole Europe. One of these tribes was the Vandals, ruled by king Geiseric. It is said, that they originally came from Norway or Poland. From there they migrated to Spain, to northern parts of Africa to conquer the roman provinces. From Africa they fell into Sicily.

As the Byzantine Empire grew weaker the Arabian armies were able to conquer parts of Sicily. In the year 827 the western parts fell to the control of the Arabs. And Byzantine strongholds remained only in the north-eastern regions.
