Acireale

Acireale is located southeast from the volcano Etna. It is a seaport and it belongs to the province of Catania. In the city center you will find the plaza of the cathedral, which was rebuild baroque style after the big earthquake in the 17th century. Right beside the cathedral you will find the church of the holy Peter and Paul as well as the “Palazzo Comunale”. Acireale is likewise a health resort: there are hot springs in the south of the city. At Christmastime in the “Grotta(grotto) lavica del Presepio” a crib from the year 1736 is exhibited.
